Mike Planty and Deven Carlson
Mike Planty received his Ph.D. from the School of Public Affairs at American University. He is currently a statistician at the U.S. Department of Justice. Previously he served as the project director for the U.S. Department of Education's The Condition of Education project at NCES. He has been involved in the design and analysis of large-scale household and school-based surveys in the areas of education and criminal justice. His research interests have focused on the sociology of education in high schools, measurement of crime and victimization, and issues related to statistical literacy.

Deven Carlson is a Ph.D. candidate in political science at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He is a graduate fellow in the Interdisciplinary Training Program in Education Sciences and a graduate affiliate of the Institute for Research on Poverty. His research interests include education policy, housing policy, policy evaluation, and political participation.
